Community and Pro Bono Support

Village Education, Laos

ESPC has provided significant financial support to fund teachers and education resources to assist primary education at Ban Hat Ngaw Village School in remote Northern Laos.

ESPC principal Geoff Kelly first visited Laos in 2005 and 2006. He formed a strong friendship with a family from Ban Hat Ngaw village - one of the river villages in the unmapped north of the country. Geoff witnessed their commitment to education, and sadly, the necessity for families to move away from the village to access education beyond the first basic years.

As a result, the small villages were barely sustainable while larger regional centres struggled to support village families moving in to allow their children to access schools. The population of Ban Hat Ngaw had halved in just twenty years.

Initially Geoff provided private funding for teachers and resources at Ban Hat Ngaw school. The departure of children and their families stopped. Some returned and children from neighbouring villages now attend the school.

ESPC’s expanded education program includes plans to support local health services and cultural preservation.

We’ve witnessed some great personal outcomes and look forward to sharing some of those stories with clients and supporters.

Pro Bono Support

ESPC also provides pro bono support for individuals and for organisations including non-Government schools, community groups and church agencies needing advice. For example:   

• Compliance reviews and advice for volunteer agencies
• Preliminary enquiries and evidence assessment on child abuse and workplace conflict issues
• Conducting enquiries and arranging support and referral services for individuals

ESPC will consider providing assistance to both individuals and community organisations, focusing on constructive response and risk management strategies.
